Seismic and hydrographic operations can disturb marine wildlife, and often this includes endangered species. Throughout the world, governments are implementing mitigation procedures to reduce the impact of seismic operations on the environment. Even in locations where there is no governmental requirement to implement mitigation procedures, many oil companies will still request specialist crew to monitor marine mammal activity.
Geomotive has the experienced specialist environmental personnel that our clients need to ensure compliance with the relevant mitigation regulations. We can supply Marine Mammal Observers (MMOs), Fisheries Liaison Officers (FLOs), Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM) operators/technicians and Environmentalists.
Geomotive is committed to raising the standard of mitigation. We only recruit MMOs with significant marine mammal observation experience. Our MMOs also have a degree in Biology, Zoology or Oceanography although this can occasionally be overlooked if a candidate has extensive seismic mitigation experience combined with sound scientific knowledge.
Geomotive MMOs know how to liaise effectively with the maritime and seismic crew, to win their confidence and co-operation as well as to foresee potential situations where non-compliance could arise. We believe that the job of an MMO is to ensure compliance, and this can only be achieved with clear and precise communication with the seismic crew and through proactive project management.
